Good apples too
Okay, I have an good gourd (good gourd!) story about one of those.A couple of weeks ago, Brad and I were walking around Eastern Market in Detroit, and saw a plethora of ridiculous-looking gourds. We passed by one particular tub with a bunch of top-hat squash in it. I had never seen one before and said "We NEED to buy one for the Hulsebuses!"We met my family for coffee and went back to find the gourds to buy and they were GONE. We retraced our steps twice and no top-hat squash anywhere! I was dumbfounded - did we hallucinate them? Eastern Market is big, but not THAT big...We figured that whoever was selling them packed up early, and I left sad and defeated as the Hulsebi would not be getting the most colorful silliest gourd of the season.3 days later, I was running errands and saw top-hat gourds at Busch's! I was in a huge rush, so I made a mental note to come back later to get one for Karen, Mike, & Violet. That night, as I was delivering a couch to them, I saw the top-hat squash on their front porch!! It's the one in the pic that looks like a pumpkin with a green stripey set of bumps on top.I said to them "I can't believe you got that gourd! I tried to get you that gourd on Saturday!"Karen calmly replied, "Of course I got it. It's awesome."I KNEW they'd like it. :) They almost had 2!
Oops, I guess it's actually a "turban squash" not "top-hat". I knew it was something one wears on their head. :)http://www.theworldwidegourmet.com/products/vegetables/turban-squash/I guess it's also pretty tasty.
