dannngggggit

I really really don't want vacation to end.

When I'm back to work tomorrow when am I going to catch up on all the shows on the dvr? I mean did I seriously manage to be gone only a week and a half and miss SIX hours of So You Think You Can Dance?

wheeee i love it

Also, let me say that I am currently typing this while watching the MTV Movie Awards. Twilight is like totally killing it. I mean honestly there is just no hope for the other movies when you allow the fans to vote for the winners. And it was totally cute when Kristen Stewart dropped her popcorn award. Not to mention the obvious- they debuted the trailer from New Moon- yaaaaaaaay.

(Except does anyone else out there think the wolf transformation is a smidge CGIdunno-if-that's-gonna-work?)

i'm a glum plum

Vacation almost over... goodbye carefree days... hello real world...

two-headed monster

Mike likes to do this with Zooey. I think their faces make it obvious as to who is enjoying it more.

:)

take a new look

Sarah Ruba is probably the most adorable model evarrr. I remember her from the Delia*s catalog days. In fact, in addition to Miss Jenny Lewis, I had clippings of Sarah from Delia*s for my example of how I wanted my bangs cut. Seriously, how could I not want to look like this girl?
Since Delia*s she's totally become more successful, and it's been fun to recognize her in magazine and TV ads!

Like rockin the Converse ads.

And rockin the catwalk to one of my fav frilly dress designers Betsey Johnson.

And she doesn't stop there... This girl has a sweet lil singing voice to boot. She shows it off in her indie electronic synth-pop band, New Look! Man, this girl is way rad.

sleepy kitty face

We are still on our road trip adventure... while our poor little sweet Zooey is home alone missing our morning cuddle time.

(Before you think I am an advocate of animal cruelty, don't worry- I've got friends checking up on her while we're gone!)

the cutest pasta award

I bestow upon thee, Tubettini, the cutest pasta award. Criteria includes excellence in cuteness in both looks and name. Congratulations!

James vs. twilight tweens

Totally lolzy Funny or Die video featuring Cam Gigandet who plays the "bad" vampire James in Twilight.

kids these days

Mike and I were bored one night, so we decided to visit Toys 'R' Us for fun. I remember the days when I would get to go there as a kid. Favorite aisles were #1: the bike aisle and #2: the Barbie aisle.... hot pink everywhere!

Anywho, we had fun lookin around at everything. They had a different kind of pink aisle in the board game section. Apparently marketing people think that if they take a regular game and give it a pink box, it immediately becomes more "girl-friendly".

It was fun to see that kids are still into some of the old classics...

...but also apparently they tend to be into skanky looking dolls now... ew. "Cloe as a little kid"?? Her mom definitely lets her daughter go wild.

Then Mike and I picked out our favorite toys. How could I not pick the Barbie Dream House? I only asked for it for Christmas EVERY YEAR of my childhood.

And look how happy Mike is next to his favorite- the Star Wars legos! He can't wait to have kids so he can play with their toys.

Hmm how should I end this post? Ooh I know- pile of unicorns (with a shark or two thrown in).

hello adventure

Mike and I are currently livin it up on the open road. Thanks to the beauty of scheduling blog posts for future times, you still may enjoy karen in color in my absence thanks to my planning ahead! Who said I was a procrastinator??

absolute glee

So after seeing all the commercials for it, I was totally stoked to see Glee. Thanks to the beauty of my DVR I just watched it while doing some household chores and OMG it is brilliant. Great cast and clever writing. I have to admit I even got a lil teary at the end.

Also in "where else has that person been" news, the lead girl is played by Lea Michele who was the lead in the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakening. Her voice is amazing.

23 flavors of awesome

Just when I thought I couldn't love Dr. Pepper any more, I see these way adorable earrings...

how many more days

love it

Side note: Why does it look like Jacob Black is stabbing Bella in the stomach? Or maybe he's about to give her a front wedgie...? Also, I need to get makeup tips from Edward Cullen. Check out that lovely brown eyeshadow and those rosy defined cheekbones. And that shade of lip stain is subtle, yet glam.

Other note: I can't wait to see the New Moon clip they reveal at the MTV Movie Awards! Also Andy Samberg better be on his game. Plus Kings of Leon perform too! Also, apparently I have turned into a commercial.

killin me softly with cuteness

OMG so one of the best things about kittens is how one moment they are all crazy frisky and like two seconds later they are so sleepy they crash right where they are. Then the cycle repeats.

Please give me a new kitty NOW.

"hey"

sunny Santa Fe would be nice

So Mike and I are heading out on a vacation soon and I can hardly wait! This is our first real trip together since our lovely honeymoon in Jamaica in 2007. We are road tripping it up across 13 states!

In a true girly fashion, I have to say that one of the days I am most looking forward to is when we pass through the Santa Fe area because there is an arts festival featuring Native American-made jewelry. I have been on a quest for the perfect silver jewelry for years.

I used to work at a quirky gift shop downtown that sold some really lovely pieces including a silver bangle that I salivated over and would sometimes wear around the store when my evil boss wasn't looking. But at the time I was barely making ends meet and couldn't hardly afford to buy food let alone pretty things for myself. Anywho, sadly it was sold and I haven't seen anything else quite like it. Native Americans to the rescue! I am counting on you...

Also, the other thing I am looking forward to while we are there is Mike and I belting out "Santa Fe" from the Rent soundtrack with the windows down....

"Let's pack up all our junk and fly so far awaaaaayyy... Devote ourselves to projects that selllll... We'll open up a restaurant in Santa Feeee... forget this cold bohemian hellllllll..."

i think she took my soul

Does it get any better than driving at night with "Closer" by Kings of Leon flooding the ten square feet inside my Focus?

(Side note: I hate when I want to include a video for a song that doesn't have an official band-made music video because I have to settle for someone's photo montage. I really intend for you to not watch and just listen as you continue on your web-browsing way.)

Does anyone else feel this way about songs in the car? I feel like certain albums are best under certain conditions. Like "Will You Find Me" by Ida is totally a rainy morning driving album.

And at the end of the day, coming home from work on a sunny afternoon with the windows down blasting "That's Not My Name" by The Ting Tings is like the creamy icing on a bumpy cake... Trying to perfect that shouty tone on the line "they call me Sta-ceeey" is no prob when the volume is up so loud that it sounds just right.

I think music in the car is like my daily therapy.

getting inked, part 4

Finally, we wrap this thingie up. Get ready for a whole lotta arm.

Looks like it's all done! A nice swirl of dye makes it look extra bohemian.

You know what feels awesome after an hour and a half of someone dragging a needle around your arm? Someone rubbing it with soap and water! And by awesome I mean horrible. Have I not mentioned that getting a tattoo is likened to the feeling of a sewing machine running across your flesh? No joke, friends.

TA-DAAAA! The best part is that I don't have that annoying reddened-skin-around-the-edges thing going on that most new tattoos have.

And then about 5 minutes later it looks disgusting. Yes I am oozing blood here. And it just kept oozing various fluids for a few days- fun times!

There you have it. It is my new arm art. Feel free to check it out if you ever see me in my lifetime, because it will still be there!

THE END

this is where we break it down

I had to take a brief pause before my final tattoo post to share my favorite Flight of the Conchords song EVARRR:

There's people on the street getting diseases from monkeys
Yeah, that's what I said - they're getting diseases from monkeys
Now there's junkies with monkey disease
Who's touching these monkeys, please
Leave these poor sick monkeys alone
They've got problems enough as it is.

They're turning kids into slaves just to make cheaper sneakers.
But what's the real cost?
'Cause the sneakers don't seem that much cheaper.
Why are we still paying so much for sneakers
When you got them made by little slave kids
What are your overheads?

Oh man, it doesn't get better than this. Please take the two and a half minutes to watch Bret and Jemaine break it down.

getting inked, part 3

Here we go with the color...

Giving Mike kind of a creepy smile. I dunno, I was totally trippin out on endorphins and adrenaline at this point. Another tattooer checks out Jesse's work.

A little baby blue for the clouds...

Some red accents to spice it up a bit...

And some yellow and orange for the sun and more accents.

Check back in for the amazing finale in a final tattoo post!

Meanwhile, after an hour and a half of nonstop tattooing (aka needle-y PAIN), it starts to get to me. Ouch.

getting inked, part 2

The tattoo adventure continues... See part 1 below if you missed it!

Sometimes the anticipation is worse than the pain itself.

Hmm, maybe not. There I go with the hysterics again- lolz!

Continuing on with the neverending outline!

Looks lovely, right?

To be continued tomorrow with COLOR! ooooooohh...

getting inked, part 1

After designing and redesigning forEVERR, I finally got my tattoo all figured out. So I made a trip to Lucky Monkey on Saturday to get this thing done!

Here I am with Jesse who redrew my design to be even awesomer than I thought it could be. He's figuring out the placement here.

Transferring the outline on! OMG it's actually happening!

And then oh crap the pain starts. I know it's kinda weird that I am totally laughing but I think that was my slightly hysterical way of dealing with it!

Well at least I had a creepy devil's face on the wall to look at...

...and Mike's hand to squeeze super hard. Note my red and white fingers.

And when the hand squeezing wasn't enough, I clenched my entire body and pressed my foot against Mike's thigh (he was gracious enough to kneel on the linoleum next to me for an hour and a half).

To be continued...!

my name is karen

and here you will find things that i make and see.
